I was hoping for a book that would have interesting and varied arena exercises for young horses such as turns on the forehand and rear, spirals, backing two steps- forward two- back three- forward three, etc. Things to work on when you can't get out on a trail. Instead, it is a simple book covering such basics as how to halt, how to walk, jog, lope. Apparently it is intended for someone who is entering a western pleasure class. Not what I was looking for. It has detailed exercise description with no information about how to actually do them. For example, several pages are dedicated to walk-jog-walk exercises, with no description about how to get a horse to transition from a walk to a jog and from a jog to a walk. For the circle exercises the advice it to "use your inside leg to activate the inside hind leg (I assume of the horse)" -- but HOW? I learned nothing from this book and it was a complete waste of money. I had been riding English for 6 years, and found that western was a bit differant. This book helped me get my balance and courage. I really reccomemend this book!
