| Editorial Reviews:
Description Inspired by a true story, this family adventure features an all-star cast, including Don Johnson, Olympic-skating silver medalist Sasha Cohen, Lori Loughlin and Kay Panabaker. Life is a rough ride for awkward, friendless, 15-year-old Moondance (Panabaker). But when a Pinto pony named Checkers leaps into her life, Moondance pursues a dream she never knew she had. Convinced that Checkers has champion potential, she enters him in the Bow Valley Classic, and in the process learns only perseverance lands you in the winner's circle. Directed by Michael Damian, and featuring an irresistible soundtrack, Moondance Alexander is an uplifting story the whole family will enjoy.
Amazon.com A sweet family drama about a girl and her misunderstood horse, Moondance Alexander focuses on a teenager who is longing to fit into a world where she is considered an oddball. Though Moondance (Kay Panabaker) is cute as a button, she's saddled with an unpopular name and that, apparently, is enough to make other 15-year-old girls dislike her. But when the spunky kid finds a mischievous runaway pinto, her life changes for the better. The horse's owner is played by a gravely voiced Don Johnson, who allows Moondance to work at his stable. In return, he will also train her to ride Checkers, who is her new best friend. Moondance is convinced that Checkers is a champion jumper in the making that just needs someone to believe in him. She believes. And by the end of the movie, the parable won't be lost on anyone that in bringing out the best in Checkers, Moondance also discovers her own worth. Directed by soap opera star Michael Damian, the film has a warm, but cheesy made-for-TV vibe. The movie is not without charm. But there are virtually no surprises here, and the viewer easily guesses what will happen way before it actually does. Panabaker, Johnson and Lori Loughlin (as Moondance's mom) are all wonderful in their roles. But figure skater Sasha Cohen is sorely miscast as Moondance's high-school nemesis. --Jae-Ha Kim

Great Family Movie September 14, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My wife and three daughters greatly enjoyed this movie. It was a real life story that they could relate to about a girl and her difficulties fitting in. Also if you love horses this movie will be even more enjoyable. It has great values and is a real pleasure to watch.
Moondance Alexander... August 23, 2008 A sweet family movie. Who would think Don Johnson had a family movie in him? THe acting is okay for the story. Sasha Cohen as a vain non-friendly person was sad to watch.
A friendless young girl finds a companion in a pinto pony named Checkers. She trains the horse to compete in a horse-jumping show.
I can recommend this movie to the whole family.
A Wonderful Movie That You Can Watch Again and Again!! August 6, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I would highly recommend Moondance Alexander! It is a movie for all ages! The storyline is wonderful, the cast is amazing and Michael Damian directed it beautifully.
If you're thinking of buying this movie, don't hesitate!
Personal Perspective of a young lady smitten by a Pinto Pony July 25, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
My Wife and I watched Moondance Alexander, last evening. We were entranced! It was obviously a real and personally inspired story. The young lady, Moondance was a beautiful and charming actress. Our favorites were The Mother, played by Lori Laughlin and Dante, played by Don Johnson.
It was obvious that Dante was an effective Trainer. He was also an enigematic personable character in the beginning! As the movie progressed... Moondance became his healer and in turn he became her encourager, and major influence to fill-in for her deceased Father! My Brother in Kansas is a lover of horses who owns and trains quarter horses. He often comments that working with horses everyday is far better than working with people! Since he is a Retired Army Officer, he should know!
Everyone with teenage daughters should view this Movie, along with their Daughters! Gratefully, Retired Chaplain Fred W. Hood
